Natural Motion

NaturalMotion’s 6,000 sq ft office was transformed with biophilic design, fostering creativity and well-being.

Client overview:

NaturalMotion, a multinational gaming company, relocated to a new 6,000 sq ft office in Birmingham's business district at 45 Church Street. The goal was to create a cutting-edge workspace that reflects the company’s growth and innovation while supporting diverse working styles. The new office incorporates spaces like gaming demonstration rooms, voiceover booths, and neurodivergent rooms.

The brief

NaturalMotion wanted a vibrant, flexible workspace that encourages creativity, productivity, and well-being. The office needed to include biophilic design elements to foster a connection with nature, enhance employee well-being, and improve air quality. In addition, areas like recording studios, gaming demonstration rooms, and presentation spaces had to be seamlessly integrated into the design.

What we did

We introduced extensive planting throughout the office to enhance its biophilic design. The project featured 24 large floor-standing planters in muted tones, filled with plants like Ficus Lyrata, Strelitzia, Kentia Palm, and Monstera, strategically placed to create a green, serene atmosphere. For the windows, tall tapered planters filled with Ficus Elastica and Strelitzia were placed, along with low tapered planters featuring Zamioculcas and Philodendron Congo. Smaller table planters filled with succulents added greenery to workstations and meeting areas. We also integrated preserved planting and provided a comprehensive maintenance package to ensure the health and vibrancy of the plants long-term.

Outcome and Feedback:

The resulting workspace was both functional and inspiring, with NaturalMotion’s Senior Vice President praising the way the design fostered creativity, diversity, and employee well-being. The extensive use of greenery, combined with state-of-the-art facilities like the voiceover recording booths and gaming demonstration rooms, created a highly dynamic environment. Employees responded positively to the natural elements and vibrant atmosphere, which helped reduce stress and increase productivity.
